Bike Show At The Sturgis Thunderdome

Down hwy 34 just across from the Full Throttle Saloon and next to Glencoe Campground is the Thunderdome. This is a place you'll want to visit at Sturgis and the best time is when the Sturgis Bike Show is going on. Thunderdome is both indoors where the bike show is held and outdoors where you have chopper builders from all around the country showing off their choppers. Inside Thunderdome you'll find a ton of sweet choppers all in competition within their various classes. Rick Fairless Stokers Dallas has a nice bar inside Thunderdome where you can grab a beer and rest your ass in a comfortable chair. Yes those are LCD Televisions in the gas tank of that chopper.

Limitation On Alcohol Around Bear Butte

Due to the rapid growth of new mega biker bars around Bear Butte legislators are trying to introduce legislation that would limit the alcohol licenses around Bear Butte during Sturgis 2007. For the past few years Native Americans have protested near Bear Butte biker bars and parties with alcohol so close to what Native Americans consider sacred. In an effort to contain the growth of bars closer to Bear Butte these limits would prohibit new bars and alcohol sales.

Detroit Brothers At Strugis

I shot these pictures of a bike the Detroit Brothers did and had at Sturgis. They were outside of the Thunderdome across from the Full Throttle Saloon. I might be mistake but I think this bike might have been on the 2006 Biker Build Off.

OCC At Sturgis 2007

One of the cool things about Sturgis is that you get to see bikes from the Discover Channel shows like American Chopper. I've seen the OCC bikes several times in Sturgis and it's cool that you can examine OCC choppers up close at Sturgis. The easiest to find is the Dixie Chopper or Snap On Chopper. However you'll find other OCC Choppers all around Sturgis.

Sturgis 2007 Dates

I probably should have posted that the official dates of Sturgis 2007 are August 6 - 12 2007 though many riders show up a week before and some stay for a bit afterwards. The official dates mark the start of events like bike shows, races etc. I usually show up the Sunday before the Sturgis Rally begins so this year it would be August 5 and then I stay a few days and head for home Wednesday or Thursday. I'm not big on the races etc I just look at all the cool bikes, do some riding around the Black Hills and then head for home.

Scenery To Look Forward To Sturgis 2007

Here are some pictures from the road during Sturgis, in the winter I like to look back on them to take me back. Nothing remarkable just a gas stop while riding around Deadwood but you get a good shot of the Black Hills, other riders just hanging out etc.

Typical Sturgis Pictures

These are typical pictures of the area around Main Street in Strugis South Dakota during the Sturgis Bike Rally. Bikes and people are seen for miles mixing among the vendors of clothing and motorcycles.

What Happens In Sturgis......

In a classic Strugis moment we shot this guy at the Full Throttle Saloon. He had parked his bike in the center court at the Full Throttle, then after a day of partying passed out on his motorcycle. We shot this before the crowd formed and other took turns posing with him. He eventually woke up to a huge crowd enjoying his slumber.

My 10 Favorite Things About Glencoe Camp Ground

Ok so I figured i'd jump on the 10 ten bandwagon and do a list of my own. So because Glencoe Campground is such a large part of my Sturgis experience I thought i'd come up with 10 of my favorite things about Glencoe Campground in Sturgis.

Booked Glencoe for Sturgis 2007

I wasn't sure whether I was going to Sturgis in 2007 or take a trip from Minnesota to Florida. Glencoe had an offer until the end of January for $200.00 for camping during the Sturgis Bike Rally including all concerts. I figure i'll risk the $40 cancellation and I got registered. Because i'd have to ship my FLHX back from Florida i'll likey go to Sturgis again because it's just a 12 hour drive from Minnesota.
