Could The Sturgis Rallly Help The Mississippi Unemployment Rate?

I don't know about you but i'd find it odd if someone mentioned that the Mississippi Unemployment rate could be affected by the Sturgis Rally being held in South Dakota in early August. But when you think about it, the Sturgis bike week is the perfect boost for the Mississippi economy although very short. Figure this, how many bikers are passing through or leaving Mississippi on their way up north to South Dakota. Better yet, these bikers are carrying cash just waiting to be spent on food, gas, and anything else the State of Mississippi might offer. Because of the additional demand Mississippi employers will need additional employees to cover the shifts at the gas stations and restaurants and other establishments that serve bikers passing through Mississippi. So while the Mississippi unemployment rate remains sky high short term reductions by things like the Sturgis 2011 Rally can help those out on unemployment benefits however short it may be.

Are you going to Sturgis 2012?

Ok so Sturgis 2011 is just around the corner and we are so excited. There are so many cool concerts, camping opportunities and bike shows coming up that we wondered how many people are already making Sturgis 2012 plans? I'm actually expecting Sturgis 2012 to be better than 2011 because major infrastructure improvements are underway to improve traffic around Sturgis and also the campgrounds are in a regular arms war of ammenities that are added year after year. I know of at least four Sturgis campgrounds that have either a beach or pool or otherwise resort type addition to them in 2011. You know that they will keep adding and adding and providing more and more value to Sturgis campers. Of course main street Sturgis is not exempt. There are more new bars this year than ever before as as you might expect those will improve as well. Much like the campgrounds the new bars in downtown Sturgis will improve their facilities, prices and concert lineups for Sturgis 2012.

Sturgis 2011 Planning

I'm heading to Sturgis 2011 for the Black Hills Rally and Races and found an excellent resource to help with my planning. I did a google search for Sturgis 2011 and found a website / blog devoted to planning for the Sturgis Rally coming in just over six months. The owner is blogging about Sturgis campgrounds and concerts and provides new information as it becomes available. The campgrounds have published their rates but have yet to publish concert information. There are many bars and campgrounds that host large and small name acts and that will be the deciding factor on where people camp when in Sturgis. I'm going to keep checking back as new concert information is posted.

Glencoe Campground 2007

If you've either stayed at Glencoe Campground or are considering staying at Glencoe for Sturgis 2009 you may find this video interesting. This is a video shot of a drive through Glencoe Campground during Sturgis 2007. This road it known as titty alley because at night it is transformed into a parade of decadance. Always a good time at Glencoe Campground here's to 2009.

Strugis 2007 Video

If you missed Sturgis 2007 or are just getting antsy looking forward to Sturgis 2009 this video might either take you back or settle your nerves a bit. One thing I like about Sturgis is that while every year it changes and grows, the good stuff stays the same. This video captures some of the things I like best about Sturgis Bike Week.

Sturgis Girls Riding The Bull

A tradition that you'll see at many Sturgis campgrounds and bars is the mechanical bull. Once in awhile you'll get a dude riding it but what bikers at Sturgis really want to see is one or more girls riding the mechanical bull. At the Buffalo Chip campground the bull attendant will coax money out of the crowd to be given to the girl riding the bull. The more money given the more clothes seem to come off, this can be a good or bad thing depending on who is riding the bull.

South Dakota Badlands Anyone?

One of the more amazing things near the Black Hills of South Dakota is the Badlands which are east of Rapid City and thus the Black Hills. The road that takes you through the badlands is twisty, slow and hot. It will take at least an hour to get back to 90 if you take the road so plan ahead. If you want a preview of what you mgiht see check out the video. I'm not dissing the Badlands, it's truely amazing but for those on a schedule just be aware of the slow speeds. BTW: No where to stop you enter and you've made a commitment to that road until you reach 90 again.

Glencoe At Night Video

This is a video from Sturgis 2006 and Glencoe Campground. What your seeing from Glencoe is the Titty Alley which is a nightly parade through the main road when it isn't raining. It gets pure crazy and is a must see if you want the wild side of Sturgis 2007.

Bike Show At The Sturgis Thunderdome

Down hwy 34 just across from the Full Throttle Saloon and next to Glencoe Campground is the Thunderdome. This is a place you'll want to visit at Sturgis and the best time is when the Sturgis Bike Show is going on. Thunderdome is both indoors where the bike show is held and outdoors where you have chopper builders from all around the country showing off their choppers. Inside Thunderdome you'll find a ton of sweet choppers all in competition within their various classes. Rick Fairless Stokers Dallas has a nice bar inside Thunderdome where you can grab a beer and rest your ass in a comfortable chair. Yes those are LCD Televisions in the gas tank of that chopper.
